Capital of the Pays Bigouden, a region situated in the South West of Cornouaille and stretching from the banks of the Odet to the Bay of Audierne, a pleasant town built either side of an inlet, with a lively shopping center and offering a wide choice of beautiful beaches within a radius of 6-10 km.

Pouldreuzic has an immense and beautiful beach of fine sand (swimming, sail-boarding) while also offering the quiet restfulness of undulating countryside. Three signposted walking tours. Hiking with guides in summer.

In the center of the Audierne Bay and bordering on the Bigouden country lies Plozévet, a rural and maritime commune. An eddy of the Gulf-Stream accounts for its mild climate. Beautiful fine sandy beaches. The cliff road leads to the small harbour of Pors-Poulhan from where there is a magnificent panorama of the bay.




WHAT TO VISIT On the "Route des Peintres" (Painters'Trail) works by René Quilivic (sculptor, ceramist and painter). In the parish enclosure, XVth-XVIth-century gothic church with XIIth-century Romanesque arches, the calvary. Chapels - la Trinité, St-Démet and St-Ronan (sarcophagus). Fountains, menhirs, calvaries. Monuments of "Les Binious" and "La Bigoudène". The menhir "Droits de l'Homme" (protected monument, by the sea). Wind and water mills. Museum of small Breton furniture.

The coastline offers 8 km of fine sandy beach flanked by dunes and dried-up marshes. Inland one can find ponds and rural open spaces with signposted pathways. Many standing stones, chapels, water mills and manors nestle in the greenery.

WHAT TO VISIT Five open water stretches including the "Etang du Trunvel", a bird sanctuary. The chapels of Tronoën (XVth-century), Languivoa, Lanvern, Saint-Evy and Saint-Vio. The churches of Tréogat (XIIth-century) and Tréguennec. The "Maison de la Baie d'Audierne" : exhibitions, an observatory and a starting point for guided nature rambles. Many signposted pathways including eight complete circuits.

At the mouth of the Pont-l'Abbé river, île Tudy is in a peninsula surrounded by fine sandy beaches sloping gently to the sea and very safe for bathing. Sheltered sand dunes.

Reaching out into the ocean, Penmarc'h offers all the delights of the seaside : a rugged coastline, foam-flecked rocks, fine sandy beaches, little picturesque harbours. La Torche, a district of Plomeur, is an internationally famous site for funboarding. Le Guilvinec is a large fishing harbour with daily landings of fish and Norway lobster. Fine sandy beaches strech out to Lesconil. Sea fishing, coastal pool and rock fishing are to be enjoyed, as are water sports and tennis.

WHAT TO VISIT Penmarc'h : Eckm¨hl lighthouse, the little harbour of Kérity : fishing fleet's return weekdays at 5 p. m. XIIth and XVth-century churches. The square tower. Chapels of "la Madeleine" (stained glass windows by Jean Bazaine). Megaliths, the prehistoric museum, Saint-Guénolé rocks, "la roche des victimes", "le trou de l'Enfer" (Hellhole) Le Guilvinec : the fishing harbour. The trawler fleet return. The long barrow. This traditional fishing harbour typical of Cornouaille is also a quiet seaside resort situated at the mouth of the estuary of the river of Pont-l'Abbé, facing île Tudy. There are many sheltered fine sandy beaches safe for bathing.

WHAT TO VISIT The fishing harbour (fish auction weekdays at 5 p. m.). The Romanesque XIIth-century church. A Gallic monolith. The Croachou Celtic cross. Kérazan Manor.

Lesconil is a family seaside resort and fishing harbour with 30 trawlers, renowned for its fresh fish and "langoustines". The rugged coast has four fine sandy beaches and an inlet, le Steir, which goes inland for more than a mile.

WHAT TO VISIT The fishing port, the trawlers and the fish auction (5.30 p. m.). The chapel of Plonivel and the stained-glass windows of the church at Plobannalec. Dolmens, menhirs, calvaries. Quélarn prehistoric site.
